Hmmm, what a week! I’m not even sure I can put into words the feelings that have been raging this week. For me and for everyone else in town. Please forgive me if this sounds callous, but I’m choosing to write/talk about other things today. I have heard and talked enough of what happened last weekend for quite some time.
I am surprised of how well school is going! Maacah is really enjoying it and so am I. That’s not to say that we don’t have our times of struggling of who is really in charge, but for the most part, we both enjoy our time together. I so strongly encourage anyone who is wanting to home school to get programs that you like and are comfortable with. Do your research (I went on-line and read as many critiques about the different programs that I could. And all from parents who have used the programs, not the publishers.). You don’t have to know for sure, but have an idea of what kind of curriculum you want. Like do you want a phonics based reading program, do you want a Christian based program, do you want a no-fuss math program…. Most importantly, know your budget and work within it. You can get good, sound, Biblical programs without spending lots of $$$. I recommend getting the “needed” programs (like reading, math, English) and teach history and science on your own. 1st and 2nd grade these two subjects aren’t really taught and beyond that, if your are comfortable with it, get an idea of what is learned and teach it yourself with out bought curriculum. That is another way to stay within your budget.
About a month ago, I mentioned that I was going a project and that I would post pictures when all was finished. I’m a bit tardy, but here they are. These were my first attempts at re-upholstering and, if I don’t say so myself, turned out alright. I have had some problems with staples and the tacks coming out in the recliner, but all in all, they all look better. To me, anyway.
Before : the love seat After: the love seat
Before: the couch After: the couch
Before: the recliner After: the recliner
Before: the chair (I neglected to take a “before” picture. But it looked as bad as the couch &
love seat)
After: the chair
And my current project? I’m making a quilt for Isaac’s
birthday, on Oct. 29. I think I’ll finish. I hope.
