We have had quite an interesting week, here at the Dewing household. Tuesday night, around 8 pm, we discovered water pouring down one of our cabinets in the kitchen. Turns out, one of the water pipes (we have hydronic heat) froze. So the copper pipe busted. We now have a good sized hole in our ceiling. After having to turn off the whole system to get the water to stop coming, we called the heating and cooling guy to come and help us. He came and quite by accident, found that our pump was useless. Which means the reason why our house hasn’t been getting very warm this winter is because it was working off of gravity, and not the pump. He replaced our pump with a smaller, yet less expensive one that night. So we were able to have heat again.
The next morning, I discovered that the toy room pipes had busted as well. I’m still in the process of cleaning that mess up. I’ve sucked up as much water as possible and have the fans blowing on the carpet, so I think we’ll be able to save the carpet. Thankfully, the carpet is brown; so the brown spots from the water blend in nicely. :0)
Today is the Sweetheart Banquet at the New Hope Christian School. Adam and are cooking for the event, of course. The menu is easy this year, with the theme being “Fabulous Fifties”. The choices are:
Homemade wheat bread with whipped honey butter
Chicken noodle soup or Cream of potato soup
Peppercorn encrusted strip steak or Country fried chicken breast or Pan fried talapia
Baked potato or Buttery parslied rice
Green beans almandine
Carmel apple pie with cinnamon ice cream
Quite simple, really. I made the 9 pies last night. I made them with a crumb topping, instead of the pie dough. The “dutch apple pie” way seams more elegant to me. Adam is doing to most of the cooking, with me helping him chop vegetables and batter the chicken. He’s the mater mind behind our catering “talent”. I’m just the grunt. And I’m okay with that. I like to help him shine.
So that’s our week. There have been other stuff, but nothing worth writing about. Or at least nothing anyone wants to read about. It’s going to be a late night. So I best get off and take a little rest.
