Some of the children and I entered things into our county fair last week. It’s not a large fair by any means, but it was fun to enter things anyway. We are also involved with 4-H, so we sold ice cream cones for them during part of the fair on Friday.
I am happy to report that blue ribbons were won by all!
Maacah entered candles and chocolate chocolate chip muffins. They were super good and gooey!
Grace entered a hand stitched purse (from no pattern) and brown sugar cookies. They were good, too.
(The cookies were supposed to be peanut butter cookies, but she forgot to add the peanut butter! As I was tasting them before we took them to the fair, I said, “These are good, but they don’t taste much like peanut butter.” That’s when she realized that she forgot to add it. Silly girl! )
Isaac made a car (with Adam’s supervision when working with the saw and power tools). He also painted it himself (as I’m sure you can see. )
Malachi did a Lego display. He’s the Lego king, so is there any surprise? I tell you the truth: he can (and does!) sit at the table and play with Legos for HOURS! He loves them!!
(Malachi is considered a “Clover Bud” in 4-H (that are for children 4 yrs old to 1st grade. Now that school has started, he’ll be ungraded to “Explorer” where Isaac and Grace are). For the young children who enter the fair, they are not judged in the same manner as the rest of us. Actually, they are not judged at all. A green ribbon is given to all the entrees.)
I know you have seen these before, but I entered Maacah’s quilt and Grace’s quilt.
We also had a grain booth as a business, showcasing the different kinds of grains (and non-grains, as the case may be). Wheat, triticalle (a cross between rye and wheat), rye, barley, oats, rice, quinoa, millet, etc. Adam had samples of his bread for people to try, along with loaves to buy. He started selling bread at 8 am and was sold out by 10:30 am. People love his bread!
