I little bit of sunshine and a BIG thank you!

I am linking up to Ellison Lane Quilts Summer Sewing Contest, entering this in the Bags & Accessories category. Go check out her site to see all the wonderful entries people are making this summer!

We are helping to catering and “kitchen manage” a friend’s daughter’s wedding this weekend. It’s a large wedding, with about 450 people to feed. That’s a lot of food and prep work that’s needed to be done, which is hard enough without having to worry about what to do with the children and if they are keeping out of trouble.

Thankfully, a friend of the bride volunteered to watch our children (sans Caleb) all day Friday and on Saturday (the day of the wedding). She comes from a large family herself, so I’m confident she can handle things.

I am very appreciative of her willingness to help us and being the crafty, sewing person that I am, I made her something. I thought a purse would be the more versatile thing to make her, since one can never have enough bags/purses! Open-mouthed smile

It is made from the Artsy Craftsy Babe’s pleated tote pattern (found here). The yellow print is a vintage sheet that I had in my stash that I absolutely love! It’s so bright and cheerful, with the sunny yellow, salmon pink, sherbet orange, and calming green. (I also used it in the back of a quilt for the bride and groom, which I will show you tomorrow!)

The green fabric is from the Quilted Fish’s line “Apple of my Eye”. I thought the greens matched quite nicely. And the fabric button! That’s my first attempt at such a creature. It wasn’t put together in the conventional way, but I think it turned out alright.

The inside has a simple pocket with 3 sections to it. I used the same yellow sheet for the lining as well and I pulled in the orange to give it some contrast.

As you can see, it comes to a comfortable place under your arm. I used a very stiff interfacing between the lining and the exterior fabric. It could be used with a thinner interfacing as well. (This is my daughter who, though she may only be 11, is the size of an average adult, standing at 5’ 5” and 100+ pounds. Like mother like daughter. Sarcastic smile )

Of course, no photo shoot is complete….
