This is going to be a strange Easter this year. An elder at our church, and a member of the tribe, died last night. And so her funeral will be on Sunday, which means there will be no Easter services. It really shouldn’t bother me because, quite frankly, Easter is not a Christian holiday. Oh sure it is now, but it was originally a pagan holiday (in honor of the spring solstice) and it was incorporated into the Christian celebrations to attract pagans. But it does kind-of bug me that there will be no Good Friday services (the wake is tomorrow) and no church service on Sunday. I have everyone’s dress/shirt done except mine. I guess now they’ll be funeral clothes, instead of Easter clothes. Maybe we’ll postpone Easter services until April….Maybe around the real passover.
The elders’ daughter doesn’t come to church (I personally don’t think she’s a Christian) and she is the one who is making all the decisions. So having the funeral on Sunday doesn’t bother her. I don’t think that is what Mary would have wanted, but that doesn’t seem to matter much. But all of us would have done anything for Mary while she was here, no matter what was asked. I guess now isn’t much different.
Mary will be missed so very much! But she is in a better place now, for she is with her Lord whom she loved and was continually faithful to. I’m excited for her, knowing where she is now and will be for ever more.
See you later, Mary!
