Every Wednesday, at Freshly Pieced, she has a link-up to show what everyone is currently working on. It’s actually comforting to know that you are not alone in your craziness for having multiple projects going on at the same time! So, for the first time, I’m linking up (click on the image above and it will take you to her Wednesday post).
Misery loves company indeed.
Projects I’m currently working on (some with photos and some not):
I am participating in the Starburst Quilt-along over at Happy Quilting. This quilt will be the 76 x 76 size for Damaris. I am using “Apple of My Eye” fabric from The Quilted Fish, along with a few prints from my own stash, and white is the background.
Week 1: cut out fabric Week 2: Goose in the Corner and HST
Week 3: Flying Geese
Next week we’ll be putting 2 of the 4 blocks together. The is the first quilt-along (QAL) that I’ve done and I’m enjoying the pace. Thanks Melissa!
I am also participating the the Scrappy Swoon-along over at the Hopeful Homemaker. For never doing any QAL’s, why not do 2 at once? A year or so ago I cut up a good portion of my fabric into 5” squares, 10” squares and 2 1/2” strips. I am making this quilt a bit larger than the pattern due to the fact I want to use up what I already have cut up, instead of my fat quarters and yardage. Instead of 3 7/8” I am leaving the squares 5” and instead of 3 1/2” I am cutting them down to 4 1/5”.
Week 1: the center square and the star points The pattern calls for 3 colors: 1 primary, 1 secondary, and 1 background (which is low volume prints). I have lots to use up, so I’m doing 3 colors and low volume prints for the background: red/pink/, blue and brown.
Week 2: brining in the blue outer star points and starting the brown points.
Week 3: everything is cut and ready for my to put together today.
Do you remember this quilt that I made for the happy couple last June? Well, that same happy couple will be blessed in March with their first child! Yay!! I love children! (Could you tell?) And so I have to make her a baby quilt. The sex of the child is still a mystery, so I’m making both a boy quilt and a girl quilt. Naturally.
Both patterns come from the Simplify book by Camille Roskelly: “Sweet Pea” and Little Man”. The “Sweet Pea” quilt is all from my scraps and previously cut up 5” squares, making for a definite one-of-a-kind quilt. The “Little Man” quilt is also from my FQ stash.
I am making “Sweet Pea” 2 rows larger for a toddler size quilt. I paired and cut out all 80 squares and piled them, 1 layer at a time (there is paper between each layer), onto a tray to keep them together as best as I can. I’m excited to try that curved edge! (I also have a confession: I’m secretly hoping she has a boy and we are having a girl, ‘cause I already really love this one!)
I did the same layering for “Little Man”, even though there are far less pieces. I didn’t have enough of the elephants for the small strips, so I cut some Pezzy strips I had in my scrap drawer to replace them.
I am making a whole cloth quilt for a special Lady. I have never done a whole cloth quilt, but if you’ve noticed anything with me, I don’t usually start small. I tend to jump into something with both feet and a life size project. Sometimes it works. Sometimes is doesn’t. Time will tell.
I made my pattern from various images, printed them to be a certain size and taped them together. I taped it to the table and laid my fabric over it (yes, it’s a sheet. No I didn’t iron it. Yes, I’m lazy.). I then traced the lines with colored pencils so when it comes time to quilt it, I don’t have to think about the color of thread.
Here’s a close up of the coloring.
Of course, there is also my Swoon quilt that is patiently waiting for me to come back to it. Each square still needs 2 sides of sashing to them, then putting the top together.
And there’s this beauty, who’s fabric is waiting to be cut up (of which my husband is convinced that I will never get to).
Hmm, I don’t think it would be wise to add anything more to my list. What do you think?
