*** WARNING: photo heavy post. ****
I have been wanting to make a quilt for a special person for quite some time now. I know: what else is new, right? My husband is fond of saying, “Does EVERYONE need a quilt?!” Why, yes. Yes they do. And this person is no exception (they may read this post, so I’m keeping their name hush hush for now).
Things have been going absolutely crazy in this person’s life. Things that are not in their control. And I can’t be there for them, rooting them on, giving them a hug when they need it (or a good kick in the pants. Which ever is needed!) But this quilt can be there. They can wrap this quilt around the and remember that someone, far away, love them dearly.
The design of this quilt is something that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. So when the time came for me to start this quilt, I went through my fabric and put this together. It was pieced and the top together in 3 days (not bad when you consider I was still in the throws of all day nausea and was keeping the couch warm more than anything else.). With the layout of this quilt, I took advantage of the open space and played with the quilting. I love free motion quilting (FMQ)! It is so much fun to doodle with thread!
I took many ideas from Leah Day’s Free Motion Quilting Project. That is a wonderful site chock full of idea and patterns for those who are too cheap believe they don’t have to send their quilts out to be professionally quilted. I was so happy to find her site, for I was thinking to myself, “Why can’t I do those motifs on my home machine? Why so I have to spend so much to have it quilted by someone else?” Turns out, you can. And I’ve been loving it since!
I will keep the comments to a minimum and just let the close ups talk for themselves. The front is in one picture, with a picture of the back next to it, so the quilting is seen better. It was very overcast today, so I took these pictures in my bedroom, where the lighting was the best. Which is actually a good thing. ‘Cause it got me to make my bed.
“With every stitch in this quilt, I prayed for you. Every. Single. Stitch.”
“You are loved” “You are needed” “You are beautiful” “You are wanted”
Pink should be here. No picture. Opps.

Great work! What a good opportunity to try out some new FMQ motifs and so satisfying to do them yourself. I plan to follow Leah Day’s tutorials for my sampler quilt, am looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing, your quilt is lovely and your ‘giftee’ will love it.
What a beautiful job you did, and what a lovely gift. I hope the recipient feels loved and cozy wrapped up in it, and that life gets back on track soon.
Lovely and bright that should brighten the recipients life. It’s nice that as quilters we can do something tangible that carries our love to others. 🙂 Good quilting!
