A good friend and her husband are leaving the Mission soon and I wanted to make her something special. They are moving to another mission in the Wisconsin Dells area and they will be living in a camper (with an addition). Having no idea what wall space (if any!) she will have, I wasn’t sure if a wall quilt would be a good idea. I could make her a bed quilt, but I have several of those in the works and I wanted this project finished by the end of April.
So I settled on the idea of making something that could go on her wall, if she chooses, or on her table, as a table topper.
Knowing her favorite color is blue, here is what I came up with: (the idea was taken from the American Patchwork & Quilt magazine, issue June 2011)
The everything is fused on, then appliqued on with a blanket stitch. Actually, the middle of the flower is hand appliqued, but once I got done with that, I was done! I do like to embroider, but I’m not all that thrilled with hand appliqueing. I guess it’s just not my thing.
All the fabrics, including the white background, if from my scraps. The stem is from the horse panels on Maacah’s quilt and the middle of the flower is from my Grandmother’s quilt. The leaves are from what will be my Swoon quilt and the blue petals….. yeah, I have no idea where I got those!
I’m not sure what I’ll do with the quilting yet…maybe echo the leaves and petals. We’ll see. This was something that came together this afternoon and I’m quite please with it.
I am linking up to Stitched in Color’s Festival of Scrappiness!

My husband says that I take more pictures of quilts and material then I do of our children. Ooppps! I suppose I do. To rectify that, at least for now, I will leave you with some fun comparisons.

Adam at 4 years Isaac at 4 years
Me at 2 years Damaris at 2 years
Lucky friend! It’s beautiful.
And adorable pictures!! 🙂
Love the pictures of comparison! It is interesting to see family traits! I do that now with my grandkids a lot. I compare them with my children at their ages. ♥♥♥
