Here we are! We “cheated” this year and took a picture at church instead of going to the picture studio. I must say, it was much nicer and I liked being able to take pictures until we got one we liked, without having to pay for it! For those of you who may not know us well:
Back row: Grace (4 years old) and Isaac (2 years old)
Middle row: Adam (27 years old), Me (Jennifer, 27 years old), Malachi (on my lap and 7 months old) and Maacah (6 years old)
In case you are wondering, yes, that is a covering on my head. We believe that 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 is talking to our present day church, people, and that it is not cultural. If you’ve read enough of this blog, you probably already guessed that we’re pretty conservative, if not a bit ‘ol fashioned.
I’ll tell you that I have gotten some funny questions pertaining to the head covering. The first one is when I was very, very pregnant with Isaac and I was at the health clinic. As I was walking down a hallway, a man rounds the corner, looks at me, nods his head at me and says “Hello Sister.” Umm,… yeah. Here I am, quite large with child, two little girls in tow and he calls me “Sister”. Not that I blame the man. I’m sure a nun is the only woman he would know who wears something like a veil on her head. I just think it’s funny.
The other story is this last spring, at the end of May; Adam and I were catering a luncheon for the Department of Aging. Again, I was very pregnant, but this time with Malachi. I was about 8 months, so I was way beyond the “are you pregnant or just fat?” stage and well into the “you have how much longer to go?” stage. So this woman asked me if I’m a nun. I said, “No, I’m not a nun.” Then she said, “Well, I saw you yesterday at the store with all these children (there were 3 at that time) and I thought maybe you were either a nun who ran a daycare or a fallen nun.” What?! A fallen nun? Thankfully I don’t think I was rude with my response. But I’m quite Protestant, quite conservative, and quite married (to a man, that is).
